Current Position: Programme Leader and Lecturer in the School of Engineering and Built Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow Scotland. Responsible for the management and development of Estates Surveying courses. He is also involved in delivering lectures at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Valuation Surveying and Infrastructure Asset Management. Prior to joining academia, he worked for over 15 years as a Chartered Valuation Surveyor and Asset Manager for a number of leading public organisations in the UK. Has studied at: Currently completing PhD in Infrastructure Asset Management (University of Salford, Manchester); University of Reading (MBA construction and Real Estate); Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen (MSc Project Management); University of Glasgow (Research Methods); University of the West of Scotland, Paisley (BSc Land Economics / Estate Management); University of Malawi, Bunda College (BSc Agric.). Charitable Work: Served as Programme Manager and Executive Director of “Malawian Initiative for National Development (MIND)” . This is a registered Scottish charity that sends diaspora Malawians to Malawi to share their professional expertise by working in Malawi on a short term basis. |
Yikherdhn Kalua - Member (Malawi)
A Civil Engineer with BSc (Civil Engineering) and Diploma (Civil Engineering). He has more than 12 years of experience in Contracts Management, supervision (water and sanitation, Civil works, multi-storey building, plumbing and electrical) in different portfolios for an International Construction Company, client agency and humanitarian organisation. This included working with regional & country programmes such as European Union/Micro-projects Programme (Infrastructure, Water & Development), WFP (Emergency Operations), DFID (Development & Public Works Safety Nets), USAID C-SAFE (Consortium for Southern Africa Food Security Emergency) and I-LIFE (Improving Livelihoods through Increasing Food Security) in project management & planning, supervision and reporting. Yikherdhn dedicated the majority of this period to providing technical services (including contracts management, design reviews, project costing, works measurement and budgeting); and coordination of development programmes in Malawi. He has in-depth experience with European Union/Microprojects Programme in contracts management; community participation; design reviews; supervising works in water and sanitation (gravity fed water supply scheme, irrigation schemes, boreholes and shallow wells); civil works and buildings; supervision of consultants (irrigation, water, civil works design). He managed more than 500 public rural infrastructure (health, education, agricultural and community) covering all the 28 districts in Malawi. Yikherdhn currently works for Romana Consulting Engineers/Infrastructure Development Services in Malawi. He previously worked for the following companies: Chapita Consulting Engineers/ Infrastructure Development Services, European Union/Micro-projects Programme, CARE International In Malawi and Ellerby Projects (Africa) Ltd. |
